Best Disposable Postpartum Underwear

frida mom disposable underwear

When looking for disposable underwear, these are said to be some of the best out there.

Some moms have said that they prefer these over the hospital ones.

These postpartum panties have more support and aren’t as see-through as the fishnet ones you get at the hospital.

They are also great for c-section Mamas!

And since these are so stretchy you’ll have room for your postpartum recovery layers like heavy-duty pads, witch hazel pads, cooling pads, etc.

One thing though is that since they are disposable underwear they won’t last very long and may tear once you go to replace your pad.

If you’re experiencing bladder leaks after birth then this may be a good option for you!

These are less bulky than regular adult diapers but they still absorb lots of liquid.

But even if you aren’t experiencing bladder leaks you can still use them as postpartum underwear.

And since these are absorbent these work as a pad too!

Common Questions About Postpartum Underwear

Do hospitals provide postpartum underwear?

Typically after you’ve given birth, the hospital will provide you with a mini stash of mesh underwear like these.

These will last your whole hospital stay and possibly the first few days at home.

So these won’t last you very long so it’s a good idea to buy some postpartum panties that you can wear for when you’re home.

Do I need special postpartum underwear?

You don’t really need “special” underwear just underwear that fits, has enough room for a pad, and one that accommodates any incision that you may have.

Some women also prefer underwear that offers a lot of support and compression after they’ve given birth.

Some women prefer more roomy underwear that they can’t ruin like mesh underwear.

I know a lot of women wonder if the ones that they already own will work for postpartum.

But since the ones you have now you wore before you got pregnant, they may be too tight and could cause your pad to bunch up weirdly.

And if it’s nicer underwear that you don’t want to stain, then it’s probably best to just buy some postpartum underwear.

Of course, sometimes your old underwear can work, but it’s probably best to buy some just in case!

That way you know you’ll have underwear that DOES fit and has enough room for your new body.

What underwear should I wear after giving birth?

When thinking about what underwear to buy for postpartum, there are some things that you should consider.

A big one is what type of birth will you have.

Because if you have a c-section you want to make sure that your underwear doesn’t irritate your scar.

Here are some things you may want to look for in your after pregnancy panties:

  • High Waisted Underwear (ideal for c-section Mamas)
  • Compression & Support (this can help support your stretched out muscles, may reduce swelling, and some find the compression to be soothing)
  • Comfortableness (you’ll be wearing them all the time so make sure to get something that’s comfy and not too tight)
  • Room for a Pad & Other Recovery Items (keep in mind the type of items that you’re gonna use with your new panties (pads, witch hazel pads, cooling pad)

Be sure to look up the underwear you want to buy and read the features and reviews so you know whether or not they offer what you’re looking for.

When can I start wearing normal underwear postpartum?

I would wear postpartum underwear for at least 6-8 weeks.

Then you can start thinking about wearing normal underwear.

But of course, wear them once they fit and are comfortable for you.

Though if you have a c-section you may need to wear high-waisted underwear that compresses a bit longer while it heals.

But either way, you can wear your postpartum underwear as long as you want!

How many pairs of postpartum underwear should I get?

I would get enough so that you don’t have to worry about constantly washing them all the time.

Cause I’m sure doing laundry will be the last thing on your mind when you’re taking care of a newborn.

I think a good number to aim for is 10-16 pairs.

What size underwear should I buy postpartum?

Your postpartum body won’t be the same size as your pre-pregnancy size.

So try to get a size larger than what you would typically wear.

But be sure to read the sizing measurements for the underwear you’re thinking about getting.

Because trust me!

Wearing undies that are too tight (especially after giving birth) is super uncomfortable and at times even painful!
