Best Disposable Postpartum Underwear
When looking for disposable underwear, these are said to be some of the best out there.
Some moms have said that they prefer these over the hospital ones.
These postpartum panties have more support and aren’t as see-through as the fishnet ones you get at the hospital.
They are also great for c-section Mamas!
And since these are so stretchy you’ll have room for your postpartum recovery layers like heavy-duty pads, witch hazel pads, cooling pads, etc.
One thing though is that since they are disposable underwear they won’t last very long and may tear once you go to replace your pad.
Best Postpartum Underwear for C-sections
This underwear is specifically made for Moms who’ve had c-sections.
This underwear is made so you can wear it up to one year after surgery.
It’s high-waisted and offers support and compression for you while you recover.
And its design will help keep your incision area protected.
You may also like that it’s latex-free!
Best Postpartum Underwear for Support
This postpartum underwear provides great support and many say it’s great for after c-sections!
This underwear gives a nice compression without being too tight and helps with the post-pregnancy belly.
Wearing these can help with recovery and won’t irritate your incision.
But you can wear these even if you didn’t have a cesarean birth!
Plus these provide enough room for you to be able to place a pad as well (which is pretty important).
Best Postpartum Diapers for Incontinence
If you’re experiencing bladder leaks after birth then this may be a good option for you!
These are less bulky than regular adult diapers but they still absorb lots of liquid.
But even if you aren’t experiencing bladder leaks you can still use them as postpartum underwear.
And since these are absorbent these work as a pad too!
So you won’t have to wear a big bulky pad with them (unless you feel that is necessary of course).
Which some women find to be a lot more convenient than having to mess around mesh underwear and a pad every time.
Best Cheap Postpartum Underwear
Looking for something that doesn’t cost so much?
Then you may want to check out this underwear set!
Though these don’t offer any compression, they are soft, comfortable, and have enough room to hold pads!
Do keep in mind though that these weren’t made for women who had a cesarean birth.
So if you had or are planning to have one I’d probably look for a different option.
Best High Waisted Postpartum Underwear
This high-waisted underwear works for any type of birth.
This underwear set is made so they don’t bunch up so they keep you feeling comfortable and covered.
And the material is nice and soft!
This postpartum underwear offers enough room for a pad, some compression, and comes in a variety of colors!
Best Mesh Postpartum Underwear
When I was at the hospital I was given these and they worked pretty well for me.
They were roomy, stretchy enough for my new postpartum body, and held in my ginormous pads and cooling pads in just fine!
These disposable panties are most ideal to wear after the first couple of days of giving birth.
But some women prefer to wear these for their whole postpartum recovery time.
These also won’t irritate c-section scars.
And since these are disposable you won’t have to any about staining them.
There’s a lot of maternity and postpartum underwear that just makes you feel, less human.
With bland colors and a style that just makes you feel like you’re wearing granny panties.
But this postpartum underwear tries to help with that!
Its colors and lace stylised waistband are comfortable but yet super cute!
These are c-section friendly, high-waisted, and provide enough room for pads.
And on top of that, they are soft and comfortable!
One thing to keep in mind though is that the lace seems to fray off after so long.
Even though these are called maternity underwear, they work just as well for postpartum too!
You can wear these throughout your whole pregnancy while your belly grows and after birth as well.
These also have a foldable waistband so you can have it over or under your belly.
These are not high waisted though so if you want more coverage with compression these probably aren’t it.
But if you want more versatile underwear that will last even after pregnancy, then I would definitely consider these!
If you’re looking for underwear that offers compression and the ability to control its tightness, then you should look into this adjustable postpartum underwear!
They are very easy to adjust with their velcro design on the side.
This underwear will not only help with healing from after birth but will also protect any c-section incisions that you may have.
Some women also like how the compression helps slim their tummies.
These soft high waisted panties will hold your pads and cover your bum!
You can get these in a variety of colors that you can choose from.
These offer some compression and the high waist design makes it suitable for c-section Mamas too.
This underwear can help you feel comfortable and supported during your postpartum recovery!
Common Questions About Postpartum Underwear
Do hospitals provide postpartum underwear?
Typically after you’ve given birth, the hospital will provide you with a mini stash of mesh underwear like these.
These will last your whole hospital stay and possibly the first few days at home.
So these won’t last you very long so it’s a good idea to buy some postpartum panties that you can wear for when you’re home.
Do I need special postpartum underwear?
You don’t really need “special” underwear just underwear that fits, has enough room for a pad, and one that accommodates any incision that you may have.
Some women also prefer underwear that offers a lot of support and compression after they’ve given birth.
Some women prefer more roomy underwear that they can’t ruin like mesh underwear.
I know a lot of women wonder if the ones that they already own will work for postpartum.
But since the ones you have now you wore before you got pregnant, they may be too tight and could cause your pad to bunch up weirdly.
And if it’s nicer underwear that you don’t want to stain, then it’s probably best to just buy some postpartum underwear.
Of course, sometimes your old underwear can work, but it’s probably best to buy some just in case!
That way you know you’ll have underwear that DOES fit and has enough room for your new body.
What underwear should I wear after giving birth?
When thinking about what underwear to buy for postpartum, there are some things that you should consider.
A big one is what type of birth will you have.
Because if you have a c-section you want to make sure that your underwear doesn’t irritate your scar.
Here are some things you may want to look for in your after pregnancy panties:
- High Waisted Underwear (ideal for c-section Mamas)
- Compression & Support (this can help support your stretched out muscles, may reduce swelling, and some find the compression to be soothing)
- Comfortableness (you’ll be wearing them all the time so make sure to get something that’s comfy and not too tight)
- Room for a Pad & Other Recovery Items (keep in mind the type of items that you’re gonna use with your new panties (pads, witch hazel pads, cooling pad)
Be sure to look up the underwear you want to buy and read the features and reviews so you know whether or not they offer what you’re looking for.
When can I start wearing normal underwear postpartum?
I would wear postpartum underwear for at least 6-8 weeks.
Then you can start thinking about wearing normal underwear.
But of course, wear them once they fit and are comfortable for you.
Though if you have a c-section you may need to wear high-waisted underwear that compresses a bit longer while it heals.
But either way, you can wear your postpartum underwear as long as you want!
How many pairs of postpartum underwear should I get?
I would get enough so that you don’t have to worry about constantly washing them all the time.
Cause I’m sure doing laundry will be the last thing on your mind when you’re taking care of a newborn.
I think a good number to aim for is 10-16 pairs.
What size underwear should I buy postpartum?
Your postpartum body won’t be the same size as your pre-pregnancy size.
So try to get a size larger than what you would typically wear.
But be sure to read the sizing measurements for the underwear you’re thinking about getting.
Because trust me!
Wearing undies that are too tight (especially after giving birth) is super uncomfortable and at times even painful!
